Being a teenager is hard enough, but when it comes to the negative effect hormone imbalances can have your skin, don’t worry! There are ways to help prevent and treat inevitable breakouts. Whether you’re struggling with acne, oily skin or blackheads, we hope this blog post will help you, our younger clients, develop a good skincare routine that will ensure smooth and healthy-looking skin well into your twenties and beyond!
While some of this advice may seem a bit obvious, we hope there’s something in here you can use to help take the stress out of your skincare.
Cleanse
Every day, twice a day. For best results, use a cleanser formulated for your skin type, whether it’s oily, sensitive or normal. There are so many different types of cleansers out there on the market – just do a little research and we’re sure you’ll find the perfect one for you. Teens and even adults are often recommended to wash their faces with gentle, non-comedogenic/unscented products that will help keep your skin clean and refreshed.
If you do wear makeup, ALWAYS wash it off before going to bed, as it will clog your pores with impurities and may even cause breakouts. Similarly, please regularly wash your brushes and sponges (once every two weeks, or more frequently, depending on how often you use them). Makeup tools tend to be a breeding ground for bacteria, so keeping them clean is a great way to ensure your skin stays clear and glowing.

Tone
We know that it’s often so tempting to skip this step, but please don’t. Toner is instrumental in helping remove all the stubborn dirt from your pores that your cleanser may have missed and, by doing so, also shrinks them, keeping your skin smooth and even-toned.

Moisturise
Yes, even if you have oily skin, this step is essential to ensuring your skin stays smooth and supple for longer. Dermatologists recommend this step as keeping your skin hydrated is actually key to helping it regulate oil levels. We know that you could feel overwhelmed with the sheer number of options out there on the market, and unsure which moisturiser is the right one for you, so consult your dermatologist for a professional opinion.

Exfoliate
An amazing way to give your skin a deep clean and a fresh glow, exfoliation is an effective method to prevent blackheads and pimples. Products that contain both astringent and antiseptic properties are especially great for your skin. Exfoliating once or twice a week can make a positive difference to help you keep your skin clear, especially if you’re wearing makeup. Whether you have sensitive or oily skin, exfoliation will definitely be a gamechanger!

Wear Sunscreen
Yes, even on dull winter days! Sunscreen is great for preventing sun damage caused by harsh UVA/UVB rays and we recommend an SPF of 30 or higher to protect you from signs of ageing and, most importantly, illness caused by prolonged exposure to the sun.

Bonus Tips:
We don’t mean to sound like your mum here, but getting enough sleep, eating your fruit and veggies and drinking lots of water are also essential to ensuring your skin isn’t a problem in your teen years.
